Skills to be developed with Monkey Scale

    • A Visual Way to Learn Addition

Watch your child explore the idea of “making numbers” with this clever balance game. It’s a great introduction to interactive addition games that show how numbers relate to one another in real time.

    • Encourages Logical Thinking and Fine Motor Skills

As children experiment with combinations, they’ll strengthen early critical thinking while improving hand-eye coordination and dexterity - key developmental milestones for preschoolers.

    • Builds Number Confidence Through Play

Using weighted numbers to physically build sums helps children feel what numbers mean. It’s a confidence-boosting way to develop early numeracy before formal schooling begins.

    How to Use Monkey Scale

    • Use basic addition to balance the scale. For example, place the number 7 on one side, and balance the scale by placing either 6 + 1, 5 + 2 or 4 + 3 on the other side.
    • As children gain more confidence, you can make the activity more challenging - for example: making 6 with 3, 2 and 1.
    • See how many combinations of each number (1 to 9) can be made - demonstrate and explore all the number combinations that numbers consist of. For example, 0 + 3 = 3, 1 + 2 = 3, 2 + 1 = 3, 3 + 0 = 3.
    • Create other fun games and challenges that explore basic number concepts. For example, put all the numbers in a bag, and let your child pick a number without looking – ask your child what the number is and have them collect the same amount of objects for example pompoms or small stones from your garden.
