Skills to be developed with Famous Art Flashcards

  • 🧠 Memory & Right Brain Activation

Quick-flashing real images of famous artworks helps your child build a strong photographic memory.

Their right brain takes in pictures like snapshots, supporting fast, deep learning through the Shichida Method.

  • 📚 Vocabulary

Saying the names of paintings and artists out loud while flashing the cards helps your child naturally grow their English vocabulary and word recognition.

  • 🌍 Art Awareness

Each card sparks curiosity about art, style, and history.

By exploring real masterpieces, your child builds a deeper appreciation for beauty and creativity.

What Are Flashcards?

Flashcards are an essential tool of the Shichida Method.

Since the inception of the Shichida Method, “flashcard sessions” have been a core part of early childhood education. Designed especially for children aged 0 to 6 - when the brain is in its most critical period of development - flashcards are used to stimulate the right brain through high-speed, high-volume input. This helps unlock a child's natural potential, such as photographic memory, lightning-fast calculation ability, and powerful imagination - skills often likened to those of a computer or a world-class artist.

Not Just About Teaching Knowledge

Flashcard sessions are not primarily about delivering information or teaching facts. Instead, the goal is to rapidly flash each card to stimulate the brain, awakening the right hemisphere and encouraging whole-brain balance and development. The process supports intuitive learning and strengthens core cognitive abilities in a fun and engaging way.

Strengthening the Parent-Child Bond

The right brain is often called the "relaxed brain," and when flashcards are used together with a parent, it becomes more than just an educational activity. It becomes a bonding experience. Flashcard sessions nurture a deep sense of connection between parent and child, while also fostering emotional development and a rich, imaginative mind.

How to use Famous Art Flashcards

  • 1️⃣ Flashcard Sessions

    • Present each card for 1 to 1.5 seconds, reading aloud the artwork's title followed by the artist's name(for example, “Starry Night by Van Gogh”).
    • This rapid presentation stimulates memory and recognition.

Hold up each card for about 1 to 1.5 seconds and say the name of the artwork and the artist (for example, “Starry Night by Van Gogh”).
    • Start with a few cards each day. Add more as your child gets used to them.
    • Even if your child isn’t speaking yet, they will start to connect the picture with the words you say.
  • 2️⃣ Show the Words

    • Turn the card over and show the writing on the back.
    • Point to the words as you say them.
    • This helps your child learn that words you say match the words they see.
    • It’s a great way to start building early reading skills.
  • 3️⃣ Talk About the Art

    • Ask easy questions like “What colours do you see?” or “What do you think is happening in this picture?”

    • Let your child answer in their way. They might say a word, point, or tell a little story.

    • This helps them grow their thinking, creativity, and feelings.
  • 4️⃣ Play, Praise, and Celebrate

    • Make it fun by playing games. You can sort cards by colour or style, match names to pictures, or play memory games.
    • Try Karuta-style play: spread the cards out on the floor, say the name of an artwork, and let your child find the right card as fast as they can.
    • This helps with listening, focus and quick thinking.
    • Always praise your child for trying. Smile at them, high five or clap to show you're proud.
    • Having fun together makes learning feel exciting and helps your child enjoy trying new things.
