Skills to be developed with National Flag Flashcards

  • 🧠 Memory

Flashing the cards quickly helps your child build a strong photographic memory. The right brain remembers images like snapshots, making it easy to recall what they’ve seen.

  • 📚 Vocabulary

Saying the country names out loud while showing the flags helps your child learn new words. This builds vocabulary in English naturally through repetition.

  • 🌟 Right Brain Activation

Fast flashing stimulates the right brain, which is great at processing images and patterns. This supports whole-brain learning (which is critical to the Shichida Method) and makes it easier for your child to take in and use new information rapidly.

What Are Flashcards?

Flashcards are an essential tool of the Shichida Method.

Since the inception of the Shichida Method, “flashcard sessions” have been a core part of early childhood education. Designed especially for children aged 0 to 6 - when the brain is in its most critical period of development - flashcards are used to stimulate the right brain through high-speed, high-volume input. This helps unlock a child's natural potential, such as photographic memory, lightning-fast calculation ability, and powerful imagination - skills often likened to those of a computer or a world-class artist.

Not Just About Teaching Knowledge

Flashcard sessions are not primarily about delivering information or teaching facts. Instead, the goal is to rapidly flash each card to stimulate the brain, awakening the right hemisphere and encouraging whole-brain balance and development. The process supports intuitive learning and strengthens core cognitive abilities in a fun and engaging way.

Strengthening the Parent-Child Bond

The right brain is often called the "relaxed brain," and when flashcards are used together with a parent, it becomes more than just an educational activity. It becomes a bonding experience. Flashcard sessions nurture a deep sense of connection between parent and child, while also fostering emotional development and a rich, imaginative mind.

How to use National Flag Flashcards

  • 1️⃣ Flash the Cards Quickly

    • Hold up each card for about 1-1.5 seconds and say the country’s name out loud.
    • Do this a few times a day, starting with a few cards at a time. As your child gets the hang of it, you can add more cards. (We recommend starting with 10 a day and going by region)
    • This helps them start recognising the flags and remembering the names of the countries.
  • 2️⃣ Turn Learning into a Game

    • Lay the cards out, let your child play to see if they can name the countries as they go.
    • This turns learning into a game, making it more fun and easier for them to connect the flag to the country.
  • 3️⃣ Make It Part of Your Day

    • Use the flashcards at a set time each day, like during breakfast or just before bed.
    • Keep it short and sweet so your child stays interested without getting bored. The more FUN the better.
    • The more you do it regularly, the more your child will get used to the flags and names
  • 4️⃣ Praise and Celebrate

    • When your child remembers a country or a flag, celebrate their progress!
    • Even small wins are worth praising.
    • Offering positive feedback helps them stay motivated and excited to keep learning.
